FireMarlene Magruder’s four children burned to death in a house trailer while she was having a good time at the local honky-tonk. The small town attorney decided not to prosecute, although she was guilty of negligent homicide. She even gained a smattering of sympathy in the local newspaper. However, Marlene’s crime did not go unnoticed by Mike and Tess Miller, identified by the FBI as justitiaphiles, a new psychological term meaning justice lovers. Marlene, as well as six other unsuspecting people who committed crimes and got off scott-free, will pay the ultimate price for their folly.

This psychological police thriller raises some serious questions. If a society is deteriorating to the point that justice is disappearing, should someone step into the void and rectify the situation? It is a dilemma for FBI criminologist Clarke Gable who is quick to recognize the lofty motives of this atypical serial killing team. Clarke steadfastly rejects the notion that he is dealing with crazies, but it is his job to capture the Justice Lovers.
